LIGHTING FOR STAIRS AND INTERIOR CUSTOM-MADE LIGHT FIXTURES
An exciting project has just been concluded for the new house of Elettra Lamborghini, resulting in the installation of a lighting fixture dedicated to the majestic staircase of Elettra’s new house.
It took us six working months, between the design phase and the final installation, which involved all team members of Patrizia Volpato.
Let’s take a closer look at the phases of this monumental project and at the innovative solutions studied by the technical staff of Patrizia Volpato so as to give shape to an idea expressed by Elettra, as well as at the techniques used to respect the design of the house and the architectural characteristics of the area where the multi-light pendants were installed.
ELETTRA’S WISH: “I WOULD LIKE A MURANO GLASS CHANDELIER
WITH FACETED CRYSTAL SPHERES”
It’s easy to say “a chandelier” yet this specific item is not a simple ceiling light, actually it really is a cascade of light, 9 meters long, developed on three levels, with an important architectural constraint: the presence of a skylight, the width of which corresponds to the diameter of the area of the staircase and that actually represented an important conditioning for the fixing of the lighting body; the Volpato team solved this with highly innovative solutions. But let’s start from the beginning!
We were therefore saying that everything started with an Instagram message and with a first confrontation where Elettra expressed her needs and a basic idea from which the creative team of Patrizia Volpato started to develop this project.
The existence of the dome from where natural light irradiates within the environment, creates a surprise effect and an opening towards the sky and the outside.
We are here talking of an architectural element of great relevance within the building which had to be absolutely maintained and actually glorified.
Moreover, the lighting item had to embody several characteristics such as: modernity, preciousness, history and tradition yet at the same it had to transfer a sense of exclusivity and unicity.
Creativity, technology, innovative ideas merged into this project to give life to a lighting installation reflecting great beauty and elegance.
THE LIGHTING FIXTURE: FROM THE TECHNICAL DRAWING TO THE CREATION OF A PROTOTYPE IN SCALE
The project phases were implemented with a great collaborative and participation attitude, also thanks to a constant and timely communication..
The creation of a WhatsApp chat enabled all involved parties to be always updated on every detail and on every request. Also, the work-in-progress phases and the creative solutions have been discussed and evaluated in a rapid and dynamic manner, without the need of formal communications that could have represented an obstacle in the transmission of ideas and information.
Once the development of the technical project was done, once the fixing solutions to the ceiling had been found and once the way to suspend the cables in the desired area was conceptualized, the imagery became “visible”, with a technical design of the pendant lighting fixture that gave shape to what had started off as a simple idea.
The method used to fix the hanging light fixture to the ceiling and the fluctuating effect of the spheres within the diameter of the big staircase was obtained by means of tying the pending cables with some rings in methacrylate that could contain the cables and thus regulate the overall width.
These clear methacrylate rings are almost invisible; they camouflage with the actual cables and characterize the whole installation, enabling the spheres to float in the air with an effect of aerial suspension.
The creation of a prototype in scale made it possible to visualize the effect given by this clever solution and to decide how, which and at which heights the spheres in blown Murano glass and in faceted crystal could be placed.
THE LIGHTING ELEMENTS OF THE INSTALLATION: SPHERES IN BLOWN MURANO GLASS AND FACETED CRYSTAL
The preciosity of the staircase lighting is given, other than by the size and than by the selected technological solutions, also and most of all by the number of unique and original elements that the installation is made of.
We here talk of 170 spheres in blown Murano glass, handcrafted by Venetian master glass makers and 69 spheres in faceted crystal.
Every sphere is different from the others by dimension, transparency, shape and working process. Every element is an authentic precious jewel and guarantees elegance and value to the whole item.
The processing of the authentic Venetian glass is a secular artisan process that is handed down from generation to generation, from the master glass maker to the servant.
Handcrafted processes give life to unique objects which, by virtue of the manual skills needed in the production process, have small differences between each other. At a first glance these differences can be interpreted as small imperfections yet actually precisely these small differences guarantee the authenticity of the artisan working process and give preciosity to the single elements.
The richness and the variety of the spheres created for this lighting fixture meant for Elettra Lamborghini make this huge chandelier unique and inimitable, with a height of 9 meters.
For sure, the selection of the single spheres and their position was not a simple choice to make, however, thanks to the constant participation, to the availability and to the experience of the team Patrizia Volpato, an excellent result of levity and suspension was reached, with a perfect harmonization within the environment, emphasizing the design and the architectural characteristics of the ceiling with its beautiful dome skylight.
THE ASSEMBLY PHASE OF THE LIGHTING BODY IN THE MAJESTIC STAIRWAY
the assembly phase of the installation was also delicate and was followed directly by Loris and Chiara Corro' , respectively CEO and Business Developer by Patrizia Volpato.
To allow technicians to work in complete safety, a tailor-made platform has been created capable of lean and anchor yourself on the steps of the staircase that extends up the three floors of the house.
The installation required great attention and the participation of numerous people – 30 people were involved to the development of the entire project – who positioned the base on the ceiling and installed the individual cables to which the luminous spheres were attached.
During the assembly and installation phase , the positioning of the spheres was modified several times, with the participation of Elettra, until the desired result was obtained you desired for each of the 9 meters of development of the lighting body.
Similarly, the height of the methacrylate rings used to contain the suspension wires was also calibrated several times until reaching a effect of lightness and suspension in a vacuum.
The presence of Loris and Chiara made it possible to accommodate Elettra's requests immediately and of advise you on the best solutions to obtain the desired effects.
A participatory and stimulating collaboration from all points of view which fulfilled the ambitions of the project and left everyone extremely satisfied.
THE INSTALLATION PHASE OF THIS PENDANT LIGHTING WITHIN THE MAJESTIC STAIRCASE

Also, the installation phase was a tricky one and it was directly managed by Loris and Chiara Corrò, CEO and Business Developer respectively for Patrizia Volpato.
To enable technicians to work within safety conditions, a customized platform was created, so that it could be placed and fixed onto the steps of the staircase that develops along the three floors of the building.
The installation required great attention and the participation of many people – 30 people were involved to develop the entire project – to be able to place the canopy onto the ceiling and then installed the single cables to which each lighting sphere was fixed.
During the mounting and installation phase, the positioning of the spheres was changed several times, also with Elettra’s participation, until the result she desired was reached for each of the 9 meters of height of this ceiling light fixture.
At the same time also the height corresponding to the methacrylate rings used to contain the pending cables has been calibrated several times until an effect of levity and suspension in the emptiness was reached.
The attendance of Loris and Chiara enabled the team to welcome Elettra’s requests promptly and to suggest to her the best solutions so as to obtain the effects she desired.
A partecipatory and stimulating collaboration under all circumstances that appeased the ambitions related to this project and left everyone extremely satisfied.
CUSTOM LIGHTING: LIGHTING BODIES THAT TRANSMIT THE CULTURE OF LIGHT AND THE ARTISAN VALUE MADE IN VENICE
Custom-made lighting projects are part of our everyday life and enables team members to address their creativity towards solutions that are always innovative and which bring luxury Made in Italy lighting worldwide.
Every custom-made project is for us an irreplaceable challenge, whether it is a unique element meant for a private house or else a greater project such as lighting for a cruise ship or a hotel.
Our aim is to create precious, unique, luxurious objects, that are recognizable and ascribable to the values of craftmanship and innovation of this Brand. It is thanks to this recognition that the brand Patrizia Volpato is selected and appreciated both in Italy and abroad as an institution of Made in Italy lighting.
